There are many groups in WA who provide [[education courses]] on how to go about genealogical or family history research and [[research]] methods.

Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups have members, and other interested attendees, with specialist knowledge in their particular area of interest. These groups are commonly known as SIG's.

SIG's can be provide attendees with very specific, or a broad variety of family history research material, for example they can be: of general interest on a variety of topics; a particular, or broad geographic area; a specific place (a one place study group); a particular demographic of people; or perhaps just one name (a one name study group).

The Western Australian Genealogical Society currently operate several special interest groups. WAGS Affiliated Societies also have their own SIG's, as do other general community based groups who provide for family historians in Western Australia.

State Schools

Western Australia has a rich history in public education through the state school system.

There is a: [http://membership.wags.org.au/membership-mainmenu-44/members-only/indexes-and-databases/wa-schools-records-index-1891-2005 WA State Schools Records Index 1891-2005] on the WAGS website.

This index was compiled by WAGS member Dr Neville Green, as part of a paper titled Government School Created Records in Western Australia 1891-2005 - A listing of key records in the Western Australian State Records Office. Dr Green provided WAGS Library with a hard copy, which available in the WAGS Library.

This index will enable WAGS members and other family historians to quickly determine what archival material the WA State Records Office holds for Government Schools in the period covered. There are 2,687 records in the table.
